LSU Rallies to Defeat Ole Miss Behind MiLaysia Fulwiley’s Career Night
OXFORD, Miss. – LSU junior guard MiLaysia Fulwiley delivered a career-high performance Thursday night, scoring 26 points to lead the seventh-ranked Tigers to a 78-70 victory over the 17th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels at the Sandy and John Black Pavilion.
The win improves LSU’s overall record to 23-4 and its Southeastern Conference mark to 9-4. Ole Miss falls to 21-7 overall and 8-5 in league play with the loss.
LSU’s next game is scheduled for Sunday against the Missouri Tigers inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, with a 3 p.m. CT start time. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network, with Roy Philpott and Charli Turner-Thorne providing commentary. A dominant defensive performance in the fourth quarter proved crucial for LSU, holding Ole Miss to 0-of-17 shooting from the field. The Rebels’ only points in the quarter came from seven free throws. According to CBB Analytics, this 0-for-17 performance ties for the most field goal attempts without a make in a fourth quarter of a Division I game in the last five seasons. LSU outscored Ole Miss 24-7 in the final period.
The Tigers overcame a deficit of 10 or more points for the first time since February 23, 2025, when they rallied from 12 points down against Kentucky. In the final 6:24 of the game, LSU embarked on a 19-1 scoring run to secure the victory over Ole Miss.
Fulwiley’s standout performance included a career-high 26 points, along with seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals. Senior Flau’jae Johnson contributed 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists for LSU.
LSU started strong, building a 14-7 lead with 5:55 remaining in the first quarter. Johnson was particularly effective early on, scoring nine points and shooting perfectly from the field (3-3), three-point line (1-1), and free throw line (2-2). The Tigers concluded the first quarter with a 26-21 lead, despite Ole Miss outscoring them 11-10 in the latter part of the period.
In the second quarter, Ole Miss narrowed the gap and eventually tied the game at 31 with 5:53 remaining in the half. The Rebels continued their momentum, outscoring LSU 10-5 during the quarter’s media timeout. Ole Miss ultimately outscored LSU 9-6 in the remainder of the half, taking a 43-37 advantage into the locker room.
Coming out of halftime, LSU attempted to close the deficit, but Ole Miss responded with an 11-0 scoring run, extending their lead to 13 points with 5:28 left in the third quarter. LSU battled back in the latter half of the quarter, entering the fourth quarter trailing 63-54.
LSU chipped away at the deficit in the fourth quarter. Trailing 65-54 early in the period, the Tigers went on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 69 with three minutes remaining. Fulwiley then gave LSU the lead with two free throws, and the Tigers maintained their advantage, ultimately winning 78-70.
