Luas Tram Service Fully Restored After Wednesday Power Disruption
Dublin’s Luas tram system is back to full operation as of Wednesday afternoon, following a meaningful power supply issue that caused widespread disruption for commuters.the outage, which began earlier in the day, impacted both the Red and Green lines, leaving many passengers scrambling for alternative transportation.
During the disruption, the Green Line operated with limited service, running only between Brides Glen and St. Stephen’s green. Passengers traveling from Broombridge were left without tram access to St. Stephen’s Green. Similarly, the Red Line was truncated, with trams running only from Tallaght/Saggart to Smithfield, effectively cutting off service into the city centre.
Transdev, the operator of the Luas, has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected shutdown. While service has been restored, commuters are advised to anticipate potential delays as the system returns to its normal schedule. The company is working to fully stabilize operations across the network.
This latest incident follows a recent partial closure of the Red Line between Connolly and The Point stations. That disruption was a result of a major fire in Dublin’s docklands area, highlighting ongoing challenges to the city’s public transportation infrastructure. RTÉ News reported on the Red Line closure on August 16, 2024.
Passengers are encouraged to check the Luas website for the most up-to-date service information and real-time updates.
