Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball (SQBB) is cautiously optimistic about the return of key guard Lucas Boucaud as they prepare for a challenging road game against Paris. Boucaud, who has been sidelined since September 27th with a back injury, resumed training this week and is expected to feature in the lineup against Paris, according to a team announcement on December 5th.

The timing of Boucaud’s return is particularly significant for Saint-Quentin, who are currently struggling in the Betclic ÉLITE, France’s top-tier basketball league. With only February 13th, 2026 approaching, the team holds a record of 2 wins and 7 losses, placing them near the bottom of the standings. The arrival of new coach Eric Bartecheky this week is intended to spark a turnaround and Boucaud’s presence is seen as a crucial component of that effort.

Boucaud’s injury woes began with initial discomfort, leading to a diagnosis of a herniated disc. He had previously undergone surgery in August 2024 for a similar issue, but this latest setback occurred on the opposite side of his spine. While the team has ruled out a direct recurrence of the original injury, they are proceeding with caution to avoid further complications.

In his only appearance this season, on September 27th, Boucaud played 12 minutes against Boulazac, contributing 3 points and 1 assist. His absence has been keenly felt, leaving a void in the team’s backcourt rotation. The SQBB hopes his return will provide stability and an additional offensive threat.

“The return of Lucas Boucaud falls at just the right time for Saint-Quentin,” the team stated in a social media post. The post included a photo of Boucaud back in training, signaling a positive step forward for both the player and the club.

The game against Paris presents a significant challenge. Paris currently holds a strong record of 6 wins and 2 losses, positioning them as a fourth-place contender in the Betclic ÉLITE. Saint-Quentin will need a strong performance, particularly from Boucaud, to have any chance of securing a victory on the road.

Alongside Boucaud’s return, Saint-Quentin has also announced the departure of Boris Dallo, who was brought in as a medical replacement during Boucaud’s absence. Dallo’s contract has expired, and he has left the team after a final appearance against Cholet. His role was specifically to fill the gap left by Boucaud, and with the starting guard now back in training, Dallo’s services are no longer required.

Boucaud’s statistics from the Basketball Champions League 2024-25 show a player still working his way back to full form, averaging 2.6 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across several appearances. His shooting percentages are modest, but his return provides a much-needed boost to the team’s overall depth and experience.

Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball, founded in 1973, has a history of fluctuating fortunes. After reaching Pro A (now Pro B) in 1988, the club experienced financial difficulties in 1993, leading to relegation. They have since bounced between leagues, most recently winning the Pro B title in the 2022-23 season to earn promotion to the LNB Élite, their first season in the elite league in 31 years.

The Palais des Sports Pierre Ratte, Saint-Quentin’s home arena, has a capacity of 3,800. The team, currently coached by Eric Bartecheky, will be looking to leverage home-court advantage in upcoming games as they strive to climb the Betclic ÉLITE standings. Boucaud’s reintegration into the team is a key step in that process, offering a glimmer of hope for a struggling Saint-Quentin side.

The road ahead remains challenging for Saint-Quentin. Their game against Paris will be a stern test of their resilience and a crucial opportunity to build momentum under their new coach. The success of their season may well hinge on Boucaud’s ability to regain his form and contribute consistently to the team’s performance.
