Ludhiana’s AIDS Prevention Unit Recognized for Outstanding Work on World AIDS Day
Patiala, Punjab – The District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) of Ludhiana was honored with a best performance award for its extraordinary work in HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness, and treatment at a state-level event held in Patiala on World AIDS Day 2024. the event, themed “Take the Right Path, My Health My Right,” highlighted the importance of individual health rights and access to care.
Ludhiana civil surgeon Dr. Pardeep Kumar Mohindra, district AIDS control officer Dr. ashish Chawla, and district program manager Dr.Amrit Chawla accepted the award on behalf of the DAPCU team.
“This recognition is a testament to the tireless efforts of our entire team,” said Dr. Mohindra. “We are committed to reaching marginalized communities and providing them with essential HIV/AIDS services.Early detection, timely treatment, and reducing the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS are crucial to our mission.”
Ludhiana deputy commissioner Jatinder Jorwal echoed Dr.Mohindra’s sentiments, urging residents to actively combat inequalities that hinder access to healthcare and to advocate for their right to health.Punjab’s health minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, commended the achievements of districts across the state, noting a 15% reduction in new HIV infections and an 85% increase in treatment coverage. he singled out Ludhiana’s performance as a model for the rest of the state, emphasizing the need to address inequalities in the ongoing fight against AIDS.
The event underscored Punjab’s commitment to the global UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, which aim for 95% of people living with HIV to know their status, 95% to recieve treatment, and 95% to achieve viral suppression.
