Luke Evans Opens Up About Body Image Anxiety: A Struggle Despite Fitness
Actor Luke Evans discussed his struggles with body anxiety during a recent appearance on the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast. Despite his fit physique, the 45-year-old actor admitted he felt uncomfortable taking his t-shirt off at the beach.
Evans shared that his career roles, such as hunter Gaston in Beauty And The Beast and Count Dracula in Dracula Untold, often require him to maintain a certain level of physical fitness. He stated, “I still sometimes go to the gym and just feel very anxious.” He explained that moments in front of the mirror sometimes leave him feeling inadequate.
He expressed concern about aging, noting, “I look at my face… all my stubble is now grey.” This constant reminder of his past appearances contributes to his anxiety about body image. He acknowledged the pressure from the entertainment industry but also recognized that these feelings can push him to stay fit.
Evans confessed that if he weren’t an actor, he might let himself go. He stated, “Staying fit is part of my job,” highlighting the importance of physical appearance for his roles.
