Luke‍ Hemmings, the frontman of the internationally renowned band 5 Seconds of Summer, revealed ‌on Friday that he and his wife, musician Sierra Deaton, have ⁣welcomed a baby girl. the news came as a surprise‍ to fans, as‍ the couple had chosen to keep the birth private.

Hemmings shared the news via Instagram, posting a tender image of his newborn daughter’s tiny hands⁢ alongside an older ​photograph ‌of a visibly pregnant Deaton, with ⁢Hemmings protectively cradling her bump. In a heartfelt comment responding to‌ fans, Hemmings explained the reasoning behind‍ the delayed announcement and the couple’s desire for privacy. He stated that, ideally, they would have kept their daughter’s existence a secret indefinitely, mirroring ​their decision not to publicly share photos from their wedding years ago. Though, anticipating the unavoidable speculation ⁣surrounding a new album cycle,‍ they opted to ⁣proactively⁤ share the news.

“To avoid any speculation,‌ we’re posting this now and humbly asking for⁣ everyone to ‍respect her privacy,” Hemmings wrote. He specifically requested that⁣ fans refrain from taking or sharing photos ​of their daughter, emphasizing their intention to keep her name,‌ birthdate, and appearance ⁤private for ⁣the foreseeable future. A Love Story and a New‌ Chapter

Hemmings and Deaton’s journey‌ to parenthood began with their engagement ​four years prior, in 2020. Billboard reported on the engagement, were Hemmings described proposing to Deaton as a moment of joy, stating, “With shaking hands but a full heart I proposed to my best friend earlier this year. I love you Thao and I can’t imagine my life without you @sierradeaton.” Their relationship initially blossomed in 2018.

The⁤ arrival of their daughter coincides with a ⁤period of creative activity for 5 Seconds of Summer. Hemmings recently ⁣released his⁢ solo seven-track LP, Boy, in 2024, which peaked ‍at No. 99 on the Billboard 200. The band – comprised of Hemmings, michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin – reconvened in Nashville in November for a studio​ session, as documented on their official⁢ Instagram ‍ account, signaling work on new music.
