Brazilian President ⁢Lula Undergoes Successful Procedure to prevent Further Bleeding

São Paulo, Brazil – Brazilian⁣ President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent a successful medical procedure Thursday morning to prevent further bleeding in his head, his doctors announced.

“The procedure has just finished, it was⁣ successful. We were able to embolize that⁢ artery,” said Dr.⁢ Roberto Kalil, following the procedure which began around 7:10‍ a.m. and lasted less than an ⁢hour. “The president is awake and talking.”

The technique,⁣ described as an “endovascular procedure (embolization of the middle meningeal artery),” is not considered surgery. It will not effect the president’s ⁣planned discharge from the ICU,which is expected later Thursday. the intervention is ⁣part ⁢of the standard post-surgical protocol.

Dr. Kalil had indicated Wednesday that the team was already discussing the procedure. He characterized it as a low-risk intervention, relatively straightforward to perform.

“This procedure⁤ aims to ⁢prevent possible⁢ new bleeds,” Dr.Kalil ⁣explained. “Although the possibility was already small due to⁢ the drainage, the probability of a new bleed was further reduced with this ⁣procedure. The favorable evolution allowed us to perform this procedure, which, although delicate, had ⁢a very good ‍evolution. The president’s overall condition is excellent.”

Embolization involves blocking a blood vessel to stop or prevent bleeding. In⁢ lula da Silva’s case, the procedure targeted the middle meningeal artery, a major artery supplying⁢ blood to the meninges, the membranes surrounding the brain.

Doctors guided a⁤ catheter through the femoral artery ‍in the groin to the affected vessel in the brain. They then injected embolic materials to block blood flow.

Post-surgical ⁢protocols are sets of procedures and ‍care followed after ⁢surgery or medical intervention⁣ to ensure patient recovery and prevent complications. In Lula’s case, the embolization procedure was part of this protocol following the initial surgery to drain the hematoma.

Lula’s Doctors Explain embolization procedure

São ⁢Paulo, ⁣Brazil – Following Brazilian President luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s successful endovascular procedure ⁢Thursday morning, Dr.⁢ Roberto Kalil provided details ⁣about the intervention.

“It’s important to understand that this procedure is not surgery,” Dr. Kalil emphasized. “It’s a low-risk, relatively straightforward⁢ intervention called embolization of the middle meningeal artery.”

Dr. Kalil explained that the procedure aimed to further reduce the already small possibility of future ⁣bleeding. “Even though the drainage we ⁤performed⁤ earlier significantly reduced the risk, this additional step provided even⁣ greater security.”⁢

He ‍detailed⁣ the process: “doctors guided a catheter through the femoral artery in the groin to the affected vessel in the brain. Then, embolic materials were injected to block blood flow.”

Dr. Kalil reassured the public regarding the ⁤President’s condition, stating,‍ “The president is awake and talking. His overall condition is⁢ excellent.”

this embolization is a ⁢routine part of the post-surgical protocol following Lula da Silva’s‍ initial ‍surgery to drain a⁤ hematoma.
