Tout commence il y a dix ans, quand un groupe d’amis de la grande région de Québec décide d’acheter un terrain à Saint-Philémon, au Massif du Sud, pendant ses études. L’objectif : y bâtir un chalet locatif, puis un second. Au fil du temps, faute de ressources dans les environs pour assurer un entretien ménager adéquat pour ses propriétés locatives, le groupe démarre sa propre entreprise dans le domaine.
« Le jour,on allait faire des soumissions,des fois même des ménages,et la nuit,je travaillais comme infirmier à l’urgence »,se rappelle Mathieu Gauvin,aujourd’hui directeur général de Chaletô,qui était en plus nouvellement père à cette époque.
C’est là qu’un de ses clients, insatisfait du service de l’entreprise qui gérait son chalet, demande au groupe d’amis s’il souhaiterait le faire. « C’est là qu’on a réalisé,on a peut-être une expertise et on ne le sait pas »,explique M. gauvin,alors chef infirmier du département de pédiatrie à l’Hôtel-dieu de Lévis.
Chaletô a vu le jour il y a quatre ans,sous la signature des cinq coactionnaires,alors que l’industrie de l’hébergement touristique et de la location à court terme était en plein essor.
Mathieu Gauvin a fait le saut à temps plein dans l’entreprise il y a un an et demi, devant la demande croissante et son besoin de relever de nouveaux défis.Si le milieu de la santé et celui des affaires peuvent sembler aux antipodes, l’ancien infirmier n’est pas du même avis.
Je me suis longtemps senti comme un intrus dans le milieu des affaires. Mais rapidement,j’ai compris le grand avantage que ça avait. Mes locataires, mes clients, mes propriétaires, c’est des amis, c’est des gens avec qui je tisse un lien, un lien de confiance, un lien d’empathie. Puis avec du recul, c’est le meilleur skill, le meilleur atout que j’aurais pas pu espérer.

Chaletô offers more than 325 chalets and condos for rent, most of which are located in the greater Quebec City area and the Laurentians. In 2025, the company generated over $12 million in rental revenue, three times more than the previous year.
