Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy), is reportedly commissioning a new megayacht that will dwarf his existing vessel, Symphony. The new build, estimated to cost $650 million, will measure 145 meters (approximately 475 feet) in length and is being constructed by Dutch shipyard Feadship, according to industry sources.
The move comes as Arnault, who is consistently ranked among the world’s wealthiest individuals, seeks to reclaim his position at the pinnacle of luxury yacht ownership. LVMH reported €80.8 billion in revenue for 2025, a 5% decrease attributed to a slowdown in its Fashion & Leather division, which includes brands like Bulgari, Loro Piana, and Fendi. Despite this recent dip, Arnault’s personal fortune remains substantial, estimated between $190 and $200 billion.
Symphony, currently owned by Arnault, is already a significant vessel, but the new project represents a substantial increase in scale and investment. The forthcoming yacht is expected to span 8-9 decks, with a gross tonnage of 10,000-12,000 tons. Features are anticipated to include a state-of-the-art wellness center with sauna, Turkish baths, and cryotherapy facilities, as well as accommodations for a crew of approximately 80 people.
Beyond the lavish amenities, the new yacht is expected to incorporate advanced technology, including a hybrid propulsion system. Symphony already demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, capable of operating in full electric mode for around 30% of its time. This focus on eco-friendly technology aligns with a broader trend in the superyacht industry, as owners seek to reduce their environmental impact.
Arnault’s interest in the maritime world extends beyond yacht ownership. LVMH has been a long-standing sponsor of the America’s Cup since 1983, and the company recently entered a decade-long partnership with Formula 1. There has also been speculation regarding Arnault’s potential acquisition of the Italian yacht builder Riva, though no deal has materialized to date.
The annual operating cost of a yacht of this magnitude is estimated to be between $60 and $70 million. Despite the significant expense, the investment underscores Arnault’s continued commitment to luxury and his position as a leading figure in the global luxury market. The new yacht is expected to become one of the most expensive, luxurious, and technologically advanced vessels in the world.
The construction of the yacht is being conducted with a high degree of secrecy, typical of projects involving high-net-worth individuals. Industry observers anticipate that the vessel will be highly sought after should Arnault ever decide to sell it, given the increasing demand for ultra-luxury yachts.
