Uganda to Honor‍ Heroes in Lyantonde District ‍Celebration

Uganda is set ⁤to⁢ observe National Heroes’ Day ⁣in Lyantonde District, recognizing the area’s ‌contribution to the⁢ nation’s⁣ liberation struggle. Babirye Milly babalanda, ‌minister for presidency, announced the arrangements, highlighting‌ the theme: “The Legacy and⁤ ideals of our heroes: a‌ memorable Inspiration.”

Lyantonde was​ chosen due to its pivotal role in the 1981-1986 ⁢liberation‌ struggle. ⁢According to Babalanda,the​ district served‍ as a crucial ⁢transit corridor for recruits joining the fight. Its residents also ⁢overwhelmingly supported⁤ the NRA/M struggle⁤ and the NRM government in subsequent elections, consistently​ returning over 98% of the vote.

During the event, 50 heroes will receive ‌medals for their contributions. ⁢President Yoweri Kaguta⁤ Museveni is expected to ⁤preside over the ceremony as the chief ‌guest.
