Uganda to Honor Heroes in Lyantonde District Celebration
Uganda is set to observe National Heroes’ Day in Lyantonde District, recognizing the area’s contribution to the nation’s liberation struggle. Babirye Milly babalanda, minister for presidency, announced the arrangements, highlighting the theme: “The Legacy and ideals of our heroes: a memorable Inspiration.”
Lyantonde was chosen due to its pivotal role in the 1981-1986 liberation struggle. According to Babalanda,the district served as a crucial transit corridor for recruits joining the fight. Its residents also overwhelmingly supported the NRA/M struggle and the NRM government in subsequent elections, consistently returning over 98% of the vote.
During the event, 50 heroes will receive medals for their contributions. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to preside over the ceremony as the chief guest. The annual Heroes Day serves as a moment for Ugandans to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who paved the way for the nation’s progress.
