The film, directed by Dong Chengpeng, has now amassed an extraordinary $31.7 million cumulative total, including previews. Based on Ma Boyong’s novel and scripted by Si’ao Dai and Yuyue Shen, “The Lychee Road” tells the compelling story of petty official Li Shande, portrayed by Dong Chengpeng himself. His mission? To undertake a monumental 5,000-mile journey during the Tang Dynasty to deliver fresh lychees, a task crucial for appeasing the imperial court’s demands.
Animated Sequel and New Dramas Capture Audiences
Following closely behind, the animated fantasy sequel “The Legend of Hei 2” secured the second spot, bringing in $14.4 million. Co-directed and co-written by MTJJ (ping Zhang) and Gu Jie, this installment continues the adventures of Luo Xiaohei, a cat spirit. Two years after finding a home in the human world with his mentor Wuxian, Luo Xiaohei faces a resurgence of conflict at the Spirit Hall, forcing him to confront new and formidable threats.Debuting at third place, Dachong Media’s “You Are the Best” earned a solid $7.6 million over the weekend, pushing its cumulative gross to $9.1 million.Directed by and starring Jiang Wen, alongside Ma Li, the film follows a young man’s journey to pursue his musical aspirations, a dream he embarks on with his father.
“Curious Tales of a Temple” and “F1: The Movie” Round Out Top Five
Light Chaser Animation’s “curious Tales of a Temple” claimed the fourth position with $7.3 million for the frame,bringing its total earnings to $20 million. This animated anthology draws inspiration from Pu Songling’s renowned “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.” The film masterfully weaves together six interconnected ghost stories, all centered around the enigmatic Lanruo Temple.The directorial reins were shared by cui Yuemei, Liu Yuan, Xie Junwei, Zou Jing, Huang heyu, and Liu Yilin, with a voice cast featuring Lu Lifeng, Lin Qiang, Zhang He, and Chen Ziping.
Rounding out the top five, brad Pitt’s “F1: The Movie,” a production from Apple Original Films and Warner Bros., added another $5.1 million to its impressive run, bringing its total to $45.1 million.
