M5 iPad Pro to feature Dual Front-Facing Cameras for enhanced Orientation flexibility

Apple’s latest iPad Pro, powered by the M4 chip, introduced a significant design shift by relocating the front-facing camera to the side, a move intended to improve the user experience when the tablet is used in landscape orientation. Now, according to a report from Bloomberg, the upcoming M5 iPad pro, expected later this year, is set to receive another notable upgrade to its front-facing camera system: the addition of a second camera positioned on the portrait side.

Mark Gurman,in his “power On” newsletter, revealed that Apple is planning to equip the M5 iPad Pro with a dual front-facing camera setup. This enhancement is likely designed to cater to users who frequently engage in video calls or take selfies, ensuring a seamless experience irrespective of whether the iPad Pro is held in portrait or landscape mode. While Gurman describes this as “not notably revolutionary,” he acknowledges it as a “nice enhancement.”

This strategic move appears to address potential frustrations among some iPad Pro users who may have found the single side-mounted camera less convenient when switching between orientations. While the author of the original report expressed some surprise, noting a lack of widespread complaints about the M4 iPad Pro’s camera placement, the addition of a second front-facing camera offers a clear benefit without apparent drawbacks. The front camera’s integration into the iPad Pro’s bezels is already quite subtle, suggesting that a second camera would likely blend in equally well, maintaining the device’s sleek aesthetic.

The M5 iPad pro is anticipated to launch in the fall of 2025. Beyond the performance boost from the new M5 chip adn the dual front-facing cameras, major design revisions are not expected. It’s worth noting that the M5 iPad Pro will be the first Apple device to feature the M5 chip, with Macs powered by the M5 chip slated for release in the first half of 2026.
