Toll Increases across Key Routes
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) announced toll increases effective January 1, 2025, across several national roads. the adjustments impact commuters and commercial traffic alike, with changes ranging from 10c to €1 depending on the route and vehicle type.
Dublin Tolls See Adjustments
Motorists using the M50 and Port Tunnel in Dublin will experience a 10c increase. Specifically, the Port tunnel will see a €1 rise for non-heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) traveling southbound during peak morning hours (6:00 AM to 10:00 AM), increasing the toll from €13 to €14. This increase is intended to prioritize capacity for HGVs during periods of increased non-HGV traffic.
Impact on Other Motorways
The M4 Kilcock to kinnegad and M3 Clonee to Kells motorways will also see a 10c increase for all vehicle categories. For HGVs weighing over 3,500kg with four or more axles on the M4, the increase will be 20c.
M50 Tolls Vary by Vehicle type
All vehicles using the M50 will be subject to an increase, with the exception of unregistered motor cars without a tag or video account. Heavy goods vehicles exceeding 10,000kg utilizing a video account will face a 20c increase.
Toll Regulation and Funding
TII has stated that toll prices are regulated by an inflation mechanism, ensuring they do not exceed the current rate of inflation. The revenue generated from tolls is dedicated to the “annual protection and renewal of national roads,” supporting ongoing maintenance and improvements to Ireland’s road network.
