Search‌ for⁣ Lawyer and Businessman Continues

The‌ Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is actively pursuing an ‌international search for lawyer Mansoor Saad and businessman Datuk Seri muhammad ‌Adlan Berhan, both central to a significant corruption investigation. Both individuals are currently believed to be residing outside of Malaysia.

MACC Chief ⁢Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the ongoing operation to ⁣the press on Thursday, October 30, 2024.

Challenges in⁣ Extradition

While the MACC is ⁣collaborating with international agencies, including the⁤ Home Ministry and Interpol, to⁤ locate the fugitives, extradition efforts are facing ‌obstacles. Specifically, one country is ⁣unable to provide assistance due to discrepancies ‌in legal systems, particularly concerning the practice of caning and its impact on extradition treaties.

Investigation Details

The investigation involving Muhammad ⁤Adlan Berhan,the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri⁢ Muhyiddin Yassin,focuses on allegations ‌of corruption⁤ and misappropriation ​of⁣ funds related to a project within a‍ government ministry. The MACC has completed the process of recording statements from all necessary witnesses and is now awaiting further legal direction.
