Search for Lawyer and Businessman Continues
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is actively pursuing an international search for lawyer Mansoor Saad and businessman Datuk Seri muhammad Adlan Berhan, both central to a significant corruption investigation. Both individuals are currently believed to be residing outside of Malaysia.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the ongoing operation to the press on Thursday, October 30, 2024.
Challenges in Extradition
While the MACC is collaborating with international agencies, including the Home Ministry and Interpol, to locate the fugitives, extradition efforts are facing obstacles. Specifically, one country is unable to provide assistance due to discrepancies in legal systems, particularly concerning the practice of caning and its impact on extradition treaties.
Investigation Details
The investigation involving Muhammad Adlan Berhan,the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,focuses on allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds related to a project within a government ministry. The MACC has completed the process of recording statements from all necessary witnesses and is now awaiting further legal direction.
