Portuguese police will conduct a new search this week in Lagos, Portugal, concerning the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann. German authorities requested the search.
McCann vanished from her family’s resort in Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007, sparking a high-profile missing person case. The upcoming search will involve “a wide range of actions” near the resort,according to a police spokesperson.
The Brunswick Public Prosecutor’s Office in Germany issued the warrant as part of its preliminary investigation into Christian Bruckner. German authorities suspect Bruckner in McCann’s death,the Portuguese police spokesperson stated.

Evidence collected will be handed over to German federal criminal police with authorization from the national public prosecutor’s office.A previous search occurred near a lake in May 2023.
Christian Wolters, a spokesman for the Brunswick public prosecutor’s office, confirmed criminal proceedings are underway in Portugal as part of the investigation into the Madeleine McCann case.
A British police spokesman told AFP that while they will not be on-site, they stand ready to assist their international colleagues.
bruckner is currently imprisoned for rape. In October 2024, he was acquitted in Germany of sexual assault and rape charges committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.
