Fans have selected Madonna’s new single “I Feel So Free” as their favorite new music release of the week, according to results from Billboard’s fan-voted poll released on Friday, April 18, 2025.
The track, which debuted on iHeartRadio’s Pride station on the same day, received 40% of the vote in the weekly poll, outpacing other recent pop releases including Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” (31%) and Tyla featuring Zara Larsson’s “She Did It Again” (nearly 16%). Madonna’s song also outperformed entries from Lana Del Rey (“First Light”) and the artist known as sombr (“Potential”), which rounded out the top five.
“I Feel So Free” serves as the lead single from Madonna’s upcoming album Confessions II, the long-awaited sequel to her 2005 dance-focused record Confessions on a Dance Floor. The album is scheduled for release on July 3, 2025, through Warner Records.
The single’s release coincided with a surprise appearance by Madonna during Sabrina Carpenter’s set at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on the evening of April 18. Madonna joined Carpenter on stage to perform two of her signature hits: “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer.” The collaboration was later highlighted by Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, who praised Carpenter for her continued support of the artist, stating she has “always shown love for the Queen.”
Lyrically, “I Feel So Free” explores themes of trust and self-assurance, with Madonna singing in the chorus: “It’s really hard for me to trust people / Can you blame me? / I never know what people like me / That’s why I like to go dancing / Safety in numbers / That’s why I like to go dancing / Safety in numbers.” The track emphasizes finding comfort and solidarity through dance and communal experiences.
An official visualizer for the song accompanied its release on streaming platforms, and the track quickly gained traction among listeners participating in Billboard’s weekly music poll. The publication confirmed the results via its embedded polling tool, which captured fan preferences across multiple new releases from the week of April 14–20, 2025.
