Madres de Plaza de Mayo Defends Against Claims of Clandestine Club at University
Madres de Plaza de Mayo Defends Against Accusations
Madres de Plaza de Mayo released a statement to counter claims made by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni and Justice Minister Mariano Cúneo Libarona. They stated that a clandestine bar was operating within the Universidad Madres de Plaza de Mayo. The organization clarified that the property in question has always remained under the Ministry of Justice and has not been used by the academic community since 2019.
The group denied the allegations and informed the public that the property was not transferred to their organization as per the official document dated November 15, 2023. They reiterated that the university has faced severe attacks while its staff has not received their salaries. They called on the Executive Branch to stop the attacks and to allocate the necessary budget resources as mandated by the court.
During a press conference, Adorni claimed that the property was lent in 2018 for educational purposes. He added that instead of serving its intended purpose, it had been turned into a party venue filled with alcohol and entertainment equipment. The Ministry of Justice also mentioned the presence of unauthorized occupants and political activity at the site.
The Ministry reported that in 2023, it allocated around 4.5 billion pesos to the Universidad de las Madres de Plaza de Mayo, despite there being no students enrolled. They described the venue as a place of indulgence and political indoctrination funded by taxpayer money. The document concluded by stating that the government aims to reclaim the property for eventual sale.
