Venezuela Slams US Reward for details on Supreme Court Justice

Venezuela has vehemently criticised a $5 million reward offered by the United States for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan Supreme Court Justice Maikel Moreno. The Venezuelan foreign minister, Yvan Gil, dismissed the reward as “pathetic” and accused US officials of orchestrating a “crude political propaganda operation.”
US Accusations Against Justice Moreno
The US State Department alleges Justice Moreno was involved in accepting bribes to help secure the release of American citizens detained in Venezuela, including oil executives. They claim he abused his position of power for personal gain and facilitated corruption within the Venezuelan judicial system.
the reward is part of the US governmentS efforts to pressure the Venezuelan government and hold individuals accountable for alleged wrongdoing. It’s offered under the Transnational Criminal Organizations Rewards Program.
Venezuela’s Response and Counter-Accusations
Mr Gil responded with a strongly worded statement, characterising the reward as a desperate attempt to distract from issues within the US itself. He specifically referenced the controversy surrounding a purported “client list” of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.”We’re not surprised, coming from whom it comes from,” Mr Gil stated. “The same one who promised a nonexistent ‘secret list’ of Epstein and who wallows in scandals for political favours.”
He further dismissed the source of the accusations, referring to US officials as engaging in “a joke, a desperate distraction from her own misery.”
The Epstein ”client List” Controversy
Last month, the Justice Department announced that a long-rumoured “client list” of Jeffrey epstein does not exist, sparking significant backlash. This growth fuelled accusations of a cover-up and raised questions about the extent of Epstein’s network.
Venezuela’s foreign minister appears to be drawing a parallel between the unfulfilled promise of the Epstein list and the current accusations against Justice Moreno, suggesting a pattern of unsubstantiated claims.

What This Means for US-Venezuela Relations
This exchange highlights the deeply strained relationship between the US and Venezuela. The two countries have been at odds for years, with the US imposing sanctions on Venezuelan officials and entities in response to concerns about human rights abuses and corruption.
The offer of a reward for information on a Venezuelan Supreme Court Justice is highly likely to further escalate tensions and complicate any potential for future dialog. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and what impact it will have on the broader geopolitical landscape.
