Maduro’s Mysterious Flight: Dominican Republic Remains Mum on President’s Secret Plane
Dominican Republic’s Stance on Venezuelan Government Plane
Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader announced on Friday that he no longer has a legal notice regarding another plane belonging to the Venezuelan Government on the Caribbean island.
Recently, the Dominican Republic handed over a plane used by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to the United States. The plane had been in the country since May for maintenance issues, which Washington claimed was within the framework of sanctions imposed on Caracas.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is visiting Santo Domingo, stated, “If we find that crimes have been committed, we will act. That’s what we did, and that’s what we will continue to do. We have complied with our sanctions and will continue to do so when appropriate.”
Addressing Venezuela’s Political Situation
Abinader and Blinken discussed Venezuela’s political situation following the July 28 elections.
Abinader expressed concern over the arrest warrant against opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, advocating for a “hemispheric response” coordinated with the United Nations.
