Tremors Jolt Residents Across Lombok and Bali
BMKG recorded the shaking at an intensity of II to III MMI in Kuta. Intensity III shaking is clearly felt indoors and can feel like a heavy truck passing nearby. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre detected crowdsourced reports of the shaking at roughly 4:16 a.m. local time. The earthquake posed no tsunami threat, officials confirmed.
Local residents in Gerung, West Lombok, reported feeling two distinct shakes. A resident named Sulis stated: I was shocked, there were two tremors.
I thought the first had stopped, but then there was another.
The second was quite strong,
Rahmat said. The shaking was brief but strong.
We woke up and immediately ran outside.
Memories of the 2018 Disaster
The early morning tremor stirred strong memories of the destructive 2018 Lombok earthquake for some residents. Posting on social media, one local described themselves as a 2018 Lombok earthquake alumni and noted they remained super sensitive to seismic activity years later, waking up immediately when the shaking began.
Tourists and locals across neighbouring Bali also felt the movement as the wider region experienced the tremors. Authorities have reported no immediate casualties or serious structural damage resulting from the event.
