Magpies Bring Fulham Back Down to Earth: Newcastle Inflicts Crushing Defeat
Fulham Secures 3-1 Victory Over Newcastle in Premier League Match
Fulham, the first English football team, handed Newcastle their first defeat in the Premier League, winning 3-1 at the Craven Cottage Stadium in London during the fifth round.
Newcastle’s early lead was short-lived, as the referee ruled out Jolinton’s goal for offside. Fulham quickly capitalized on the visitors’ mistake, scoring a minute later when Adama Traore passed the ball to Raul Jimenez in the penalty area, and he slotted it into the net in the 5th minute.
Fulham extended their lead in the 22nd minute, as Alex Iwobi fed the ball to Smith Rowe, who shot it powerfully past goalkeeper Nick Pope before crossing the goal line.
After the start of the second half, Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes took advantage of Jacob Murphy’s pass and shot low into the far corner, making the score 2–1 in the 46th minute. However, Nelson sealed the match in stoppage time, scoring from close range after a Newcastle defensive error in the 90+5 minute.
Newcastle, whose strong start to the season has ended, sits fifth in the table with ten points after five games. Meanwhile, Fulham has reached eight points after their second win.
