The Mela has also attracted international attention, with Laurene Powell, wife of the late Steve Jobs, reportedly expressing her desire to embrace Sanatan Dharma. Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri revealed that Powell was initiated into the tradition on Makar Sankranti, January 14, and given the name Kamala.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has ensured free accommodation, food, and medical facilities for state residents attending the Mela. "Mahakumbh has special significance in Indian culture. It is said to provide all the siddhis (spiritual powers)," Sharma stated.
