Maharashtra Election Results 2024: Mahayuti’s Government Formation and CM Dynamics
Maharashtra Assembly Election Results: Mahayuti’s Government Formation
Maharashtra’s Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shinde Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar), is set to form the government before November 26. The BJP won 132 seats, Shinde Sena secured 57, and NCP Ajit Pawar has 41 seats. The Governor is expected to invite the BJP to stake its claim, with Devendra Fadnavis likely returning as Chief Minister (CM).
A meeting occurred between Fadnavis, Shinde, and Pawar to discuss cabinet positions. The Mahayuti plans to maintain a structure of one CM and two deputy CMs. There are indications that Shinde may accept the deputy CM role, overseeing crucial areas such as urban development, industries, and water resources.
Shinde’s acceptance of the deputy CM post would mark his second term in Fadnavis’s cabinet. In the past, Fadnavis served as deputy CM in Shinde’s government. Observers are keen to see if Shinde will reciprocate this gesture.
Shiv Sainiks believe Shinde should become CM again due to his strong performance and reputation. His leadership helped the BJP in recent elections. The expectations are high for Shinde to negotiate firmly for a full five-year term.
The Shinde-led Sena recently held an executive meeting to authorize him to form the government and engage with allies. Concurrently, Ajit Pawar will likely receive similar powers in the NCP. The BJP will meet to elect Fadnavis as the leader of its legislative party.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will analyze its performance after the loss. The Mahayuti will reflect on its decisive victory and strategize for the future.
