In a historic move, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a power tariff cut, the first of its kind for the state. The initiative promises a 10% reduction in the first year,contributing to an overall 26% decrease over five years. This power tariff reduction aims to benefit a wide range of consumers across the state.
Fadnavis credited the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory commission (MERC) for approving the proposal from MSEDCL. He noted that previous petitions typically requested tariff hikes,but this time,the focus shifted to reduction,marking a significant change in approach.
The chief minister emphasized that domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers will all experience the positive effects of this decision. specifically, about 70% of the state’s power consumers, those using less than 100 units, stand to gain the most from the initial 10% decrease.
Additionally, Fadnavis confirmed the rapid progress of the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0).
