Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, 80, addressed the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2024, via video conference, delivering a scathing indictment of Israel’s actions. Abbas characterized Israel’s actions as “not just an attack… but a war crime and a crime against humanity,” and described the situation as “one of the most terrible human tragedies of the 20th and 21st century.”
Abbas specifically accused Israeli forces of perpetrating a “struggle for genocide, destruction, hunger and displacement” in the Gaza Strip, stating this has been ongoing for nearly two years. He reported that over 220,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, the vast majority of whom he said were unarmed.
Allegations of War Crimes and Collective Punishment
