For the first time, in these elections, postal voting is being trialled in six countries – USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland.

The political battle is between Maia Sandu, with the support of the Action and Unity Party, and Alexandr Stoianoglo, the candidate of the Socialist Party, reports IPN.

The voting is monitored by national and international observers accredited by the CEC. Observers accredited in the first round can continue their election observation and monitoring activity in the second round as well. Over two thousand observers were accredited for the first round of voting.

More than 2.7 million voters are included in the primary electoral lists. In the second round, the vote is declared valid, if at least one-fifth (1/5) of the number of people registered on the electoral lists participate.

Voters can exercise their right to vote until 21.00. The electoral office may decide to extend the voting period by no more than two hours, in order to allow the voters standing in line to vote in the 2,219 polling stations, of which 1,988 are open on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, including 30 stations for residents on the left side of the Dniester. Dispersed voters will exercise their right to vote in 231 polling stations, which are open in 37 countries.

Ballot papers are also printed in the languages of the national minorities: Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Gagauz, Russian and Romanian.

Citizens who have the right to vote, from the country and abroad, can vote with a citizen ID card of the Republic of Moldova, and the document must confirm the voter’s domicile or temporary residence on the territory of the polling station. Also, voters can vote with the temporary identity card, mentioning the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the domicile or temporary residence of the holder or with the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, including with an expired period of validity. .

Students and pupils who have the right to vote, who do not have their domicile or temporary residence in the area where they study, can vote at any polling station that is open in this area, having to present their identification document and card a student/pupil from an educational institution in that area. On November 3, the multifunctional centers of the Public Services Agency issue free temporary identity cards to voters who do not have identity documents. Each multifunctional center operates with a special working schedule, between 07.00 and 21.00.

The voter who, for health or other reasons, cannot come to the polling station, can request a mobile ballot box from the electoral office. On the day of the vote, written requests can be made until 14.00, if a medical certificate is presented. Applications submitted for the first round are not valid for the second round.

For the first time, in these elections, postal voting is being trialled in six states – USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland. Almost 1,800 Moldovan voters registered for this voting method.
