Máiréad Honan Funeral: Crossboyne, Mayo – Obituary & Service Details

Mairéad Delaney, Remembered as Devoted Wife and Mother, Dies at Mayo Hospice

Seefin, Hollymount, County Mayo – Mairéad Delaney (née Honan) passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, surrounded by her family at Mayo Hospice. She was formerly of Newtown, Ennistymon, County Clare.

The death of Ms. Delaney has prompted an outpouring of grief from the Hollymount community and beyond. She is deeply mourned by her husband, Martin Gerard, and their three children, Eóghan, Niamh, and Fionn.

Born in Ennistymon, County Clare, Ms. Delaney is also survived by her parents, James and Margaret Honan, her brothers Derek and Cathal, and her sisters Siobhain and Eilish. She is also remembered by her father-in-law, Mattie, and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Ms. Delaney’s remains were reposing in Carey’s Funeral Home, Ballindine (F12A3C6) on Saturday evening, March 7th, from 6pm to 8pm. Her remains were brought to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Crossboyne on Sunday morning, March 8th, for Funeral Mass at 11:30am, with burial following in Crossboyne Cemetery.

The Funeral Mass was live streamed on the Taugheen community Facebook page, allowing those unable to attend in person to participate in the service. https://www.facebook.com/taugheencommunity/

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mayo Hospice, c/o Carey’s Funeral Directors, Ballindine. Donations can be made online at https://www.hospice.ie/donations/in-loving-memory/.

A traditional Irish blessing, “Ard Deis Dé go raibh a h’anam,” meaning “May God have her soul,” reflects the sentiments of those mourning her loss.
