Major Drug Bust: Policía Federal Argentina Seizes Over 210 Kilos of Narcotics in San Juan Operation
The Argentine Federal Police conducted a significant investigation in San Juan this year. This operation led to the seizure of 200 kilograms of marijuana and an equal amount of cocaine. They dismantled a drug trafficking gang responsible for transporting these substances into the province. Notably, the police arrested a municipal employee from 25 de Mayo, who used an official vehicle to carry out the drug transactions.
The investigation, carried out by the Federal Operational Unit of San Juan, began after community tips revealed a drug trafficking network. Under the supervision of Federal Judge Leopoldo Rago Gallo, the police intensified their efforts to halt the drug trade.
A major breakthrough occurred when officers seized over 60 kilograms of marijuana hidden in a lumber shipment. This discovery was aided by a trained dog named “Kuma.”
Over several months, investigators identified key members of the network, including a man from Chaco known as “Messi.” On November 1, police arrested seven individuals, including two women, who were then taken into custody.
The Ministry of Security of the Nation assisted in the investigation, employing special techniques to track the traffickers across various provinces. Federal investigators traveled to these regions to confirm information and identify the main suspects.
Once they gathered enough intelligence, the police planned a major operation against the drug group. On November 1, as dawn approached, they were ready to intercept a shipment of drugs coming from Chaco en route to the San Juan area, specifically to 25 de Mayo.
Upon arrival, police discovered that a municipal employee was transporting the drugs, driving at 170 km/h. They executed a search warrant at a targeted home and seized nearly 150 kilograms of marijuana, potentially worth $1.2 billion on the street, along with two kilograms of cocaine of high purity.
Seven individuals were arrested in this operation, including the local “Messi” who had arrived in San Juan to collect payments for the drugs. The federal court will now handle their prosecution.
Through these operations, the Argentine Federal Police dismantled the drug gang, confiscating over 210 kilograms of drugs, including both marijuana and cocaine.
Fact: The recent seizure could have been sold on the street for about $1.2 billion.
