Ryan Andrews and Michaela O’Neill’s wedding was a festivity of love, laughter, and a shared passion for the performing arts. From carefully curated musical cues to a dance floor fuelled by entertainment industry friends, their day was a deeply personal and joyfully memorable occasion. Now, as the couple prepares to return to the stage in ‘Olly Goes To Oz’, Ryan shares heartwarming details of their wedding and looks ahead to the magic of panto season.

The Soundtrack to ‘I Do’: A Musical Wedding

Music played a central role in Ryan and Michaela’s wedding, reflecting their personalities and love story. “You know, I think people say, ‘do the wedding that you want’, but then I actually think you need to do the wedding that your guests would want as well. Because when your guests are having fun, you’re having fun,” Ryan explains.

The processional was a carefully considered blend of epic and heartfelt. Ryan walked down the aisle with his mam to the soaring anthem, Viva la Vida by Coldplay, setting a dramatic tone. The bridal party, including Michaela’s nine nieces and nephews, were accompanied by A Million Miles by The Corrs.A especially adorable moment involved one of the flower girls, Phoebe, who took her first steps while on the island where the wedding was held – requiring the quartet to play her song twice as she made her way down the aisle!

Michaela’s entrance was underscored by the timeless romance of I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You. And as husband and wife, their recessional was a burst of pure joy with Can’t take My Eyes Off You from The Jersey Boys – a nod to their favorite musical.

From First Dance to Last Song: A Celebration on the Dance Floor

The reception continued the musical theme, featuring both a brilliant band and a DJ to keep the energy high.Ryan and Michaela even prepared a dance routine, opting for somthing “nice and simple, and good fun.”

“We had a lot of guests from the world of entertainment and musicals, so as you can imagine, the dance floor was hopping all night,” Ryan recalls. Their first dance was a unique and personal choice: a cover of the Bay City Rollers classic, I Only Want to Be with You, performed by Lyra. “We’d heard it one time randomly and just fell in love with it.”

The party continued until 3 am, with many guests looking forward to a second day of celebrations. Ryan admits the months of planning culminated in a feeling of blissful exhaustion. “It’s months and months of planning, and I think your body and your brain shuts down, like ‘I don’t want to make any more decisions. I’m done!’ That’s how I felt.”

Cherished Moments & Looking Back

Reflecting on the day, Ryan emphasizes the importance of the small, frequently enough overlooked moments. “When I remember the day now, there are so many lovely moments during the day, like seeing Michaela walking down the aisle. And seeing my parents getting ready for the day. And you know, seeing little things like the canapes that we chose two years ago being handed out and everyone enjoying them. There are all these little moments like that, that might seem pretty insignificant to others, but they’re actually really notable to us.”

He even confesses a desire to relive the day, but from a different perspective. “It’s funny, I frequently enough say that I’d love to do it all again, but experience it as a guest, if you know what I mean? I’d love to see it from the other side.”
