Kuala Lumpur ‌- In a trilateral meeting with Brazil and the ASEAN⁣ Secretariat, Malaysia underscored the‌ strategic importance of deepening ties with the Latin American powerhouse, emphasizing shared values and a‍ commitment to⁢ multilateralism in‍ a ⁤world facing increasing divergence and conflict.

A Convergence of Priorities

Malaysia’s leadership welcomed‍ Brazil’s prominent role in the Global South, recognizing ⁢its significance as the largest economy in Latin America ‌and a founding member of BRICS. The meeting followed Brazil’s successful hosting of the BRICS Summit, which prioritized peace, stability, trade, investment, prosperity, climate change, and sustainability – themes directly mirroring Malaysia’s current Chairmanship of ASEAN.

“Brazil’s commitment to‍ an inclusive, rules-based multilateral trading system aligns closely with Malaysia’s Chairmanship theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’,” stated the Malaysian representative.⁣ “beyond trade, we⁢ believe ASEAN and ‌Brazil can forge ⁣a strong partnership in championing multilateralism, peace, and stability on the global stage.”

Shared Values and a Unified voice

Building on Existing Cooperation

Despite being a relatively young partnership, the ASEAN-Brazil⁤ Sectoral Dialog Partnership has already demonstrated promising developments:

Sustainable Energy Collaboration: A Brazilian-initiated project promoting sustainable energy in Southeast Asia, focusing on biofuels and renewable energy sources.
* Agricultural Capacity Building: Cooperative⁤ initiatives supporting ASEAN’s ⁤efforts to enhance agriculture and food security.

Thes⁣ developments align⁢ with ASEAN’s sustainability agenda and the broader ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

charting a ⁢Course for Future Collaboration

The meeting served as a platform to ⁣explore opportunities for strengthening the partnership in key strategic areas. discussions centered on addressing pressing ⁣global challenges, ‍including ‍climate change, health security, ⁢and the digital economy – all deemed fundamental ⁣for global stability‍ and shared prosperity.

“Together, ASEAN and ⁤Brazil ⁤could advance the interests of the Global South,” the Malaysian representative concluded. “I look forward to an open and constructive exchange of views, and ‍to identifying concrete ⁣ways to advance ⁤our collaboration in the years ahead.”
