Malaysia Concludes ASEAN Chairmanship, Highlights Key Achievements

Kuala Lumpur successfully steered the Association of southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) through a period of global change during its 2025 chairmanship, according to prime minister Anwar Ibrahim. Malaysia focused on revitalizing dialog and fostering unity among member states, emphasizing a commitment to peace and a shared purpose.
Key Milestones of the 47th ASEAN Summit
The 47th ASEAN Summit, which concluded on October 28th after three days of meetings, saw several significant developments. These included the signing of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area 3.0, intended to deepen economic ties between the regional bloc and China, and the historic KL Peace accord between Cambodia and Thailand, addressing long-standing border disputes.
A landmark achievement was the formal admission of Timor-Leste as ASEAN’s 11th member state, marking a significant expansion of the association’s reach and influence. This accession follows years of application and demonstrates ASEAN’s commitment to inclusivity.
Emphasis on Regional Cooperation and Trust
prime Minister Ibrahim underscored that ASEAN’s strength lies in the loyalty, inclusivity, and mutual trust cultivated among its member nations. He acknowledged that challenges remain, but emphasized that each step taken during Malaysia’s chairmanship contributed to a more hopeful and just future for the region.

Transition to Philippine Chairmanship
With the conclusion of Malaysia’s chairmanship,the responsibilities have now been passed to the Philippines. Malaysia looks back on its term with gratitude,recognizing the progress made towards regional cooperation and stability.
