Bilateral Cooperation Gains Momentum
Iran has formally invited Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Tiong King Sing, to visit Tehran as part of a broader initiative to bolster tourism, cultural exchange, and economic relations between the two nations. The invitation was delivered by Rouzbeh Kardouni, advisor to Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri, during a visit to Malaysia.
Discussions centered on increased collaboration, including active participation in key tourism fairs. Iran has expressed its readiness to exhibit at “Matta Fair” in Malaysia, scheduled for March 2026, and has extended an invitation for the Malaysian tourism sector to participate in Iran’s International Tourism Exhibition in February 2026.
Facilitating Reciprocal Travel
To encourage tourism, both countries have agreed to extend visa validity for citizens of Iran and Malaysia. Effective from early summer 2025, visas will be valid for 30 days, an increase from the previous 14-day limit. This change aims to streamline travel and foster greater people-to-people connections.
Joint Participation in Tourism Events
An Iranian delegation recently participated in events commemorating World Tourism Day 2025 and an international tourism conference held in Malacca, Malaysia. These engagements underscore Iran’s commitment to collaborative initiatives within the tourism sector.
Future Collaboration and Agreements
Further discussions between Kardouni and Malaysian Deputy Tourism Minister Chua choon Hwa in Putrajaya focused on establishing direct flights between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur. officials believe finalizing a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation will be instrumental in enhancing bilateral relations in both tourism and handicrafts.
