Rooster’s Early Morning Crowing Costs U.K. Man Thousands

LONDON – A resident of the United Kingdom has been penalized nearly 4,000 pounds after his rooster’s early morning crowing disrupted the sleep of his neighbors.
According to a report by the British newspaper, The Guardian, the New Forest District Council (NFDC) in Hampshire steadfast that the rooster, owned by Harold Brown, produced noise levels that substantially interfered with the sleep patterns of nearby residents.

The issue first arose in 2022 when eight households filed complaints regarding the rooster’s 5 a.m.wake-up calls.
In December 2022,Brown was instructed to reduce the noise emanating from his property. However, no action was taken, leading to a conviction in November of the following year.
Appeal Dismissed, Fine Imposed
Brown subsequently appealed the ruling, but his appeal was unsuccessful.
He was ultimately ordered to pay a fine of 280 pounds, in addition to 3,651 pounds in legal costs.
Council Emphasizes Right to Peaceful Enjoyment
A spokesperson for the New Forest district Council stated, “Evidence showed that the rooster’s crowing at 5 a.m. every day was regularly impacting residents’ sleep.”
Local lawmaker Dan Pul emphasized the importance of tranquility at home, stating, “Everyone has the right to live peacefully without disturbance in their own home.”
