midway, Arkansas – A baxter County man is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting a woman and forcing her into a vehicle against her will.Thirty-five-year-old Richard Deffley was arrested on December 7th following a report of domestic violence at a residence on arkansas Highway 5 North. Responding deputies found a woman with visible injuries, including two black eyes.
According too the incident report,the woman alleged that she and Deffley had a physical altercation the previous night. She claimed Deffley struck and kicked her while she was lying on a bed and later hit her with a pool cue. Deputies observed bruising on her arms, legs, and thighs, corroborating her account.
The woman told authorities that Deffley then forced her into a vehicle and drove to a nearby lake, believing law enforcement was on their way to arrest him.Upon returning to the residence, she alleged Deffley assaulted her again before she managed to escape to a neighboring house.
Deputies located Deffley inside the residence and took him into custody. While initially denying the physical assault, Deffley later admitted to a “small physical altercation” in a written statement at the Baxter County detention Centre. He claimed the scratches on his hand were self-defence wounds and denied attempting to evade authorities.
Deffley was released on a $1,000 bond. He is facing charges of second-degree false imprisonment and third-degree domestic battery.

The woman stated that Deffley then forcibly placed her in a vehicle and drove to a nearby lake, fearing imminent arrest by law enforcement. Upon returning to the residence, she alleged another assault before escaping to a neighbor’s house for help.
Deffley was located and arrested at the residence. Initially denying the assault, he later admitted to a “small physical altercation” in a written statement at the Baxter County Detention Center. He claimed the scratches on his hand were self-inflicted in self-defense and denied attempting to evade authorities.
Deffley was released on a $1,000 bond.
