International Effort Uncovers Widespread Criminal Activity

A man in his 50s has been remanded in custody in Monaghan following his ‍arrest as part of a significant global operation targeting human trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced criminality. The arrest, which took place in ⁤early June, is ⁤a key development in⁤ “Operation Global Chain,” a coordinated international initiative ‌aimed at dismantling organised crime groups involved in these heinous crimes.

Operation Global Chain: A United Front Against Exploitation

Operation Global Chain, conducted from June 1st to June 6th, 2025, saw law enforcement agencies worldwide, including An Garda Síochána, collaborate ‍to combat ‍human trafficking. The operation specifically focused on identifying and disrupting networks involved in sexual exploitation, forced criminality, and forced begging, with a particular emphasis on child trafficking for financial gain.

During the week-long operation, gardaí ‍conducted extensive checks across Ireland. This included visits to 92 suspected brothels in various towns and cities. During these visits, 179 sex workers, representing a⁢ diverse range of nationalities including Brazil, Romania, Spain, China, Dominican Republic, Poland,⁤ Latvia, Colombia, Taiwan, ⁢Panama, Czech Republic, Malaysia, and Ireland, where interviewed. While no victims of human trafficking were detected during these specific visits, the intelligence gathered is crucial for ongoing investigations.

Moreover, gardaí inspected over 5,400 passengers⁤ arriving at Dublin Airport on Thursday, ⁣June 5th, and Friday, June 6th. Members⁢ from the Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit and the Organised ⁢Prostitution Investigation unit were present during these airport inspections, underscoring the multi-faceted approach of the operation.

Legal Proceedings and Future Collaboration

The man arrested in Monaghan was detained on June 9th at Monaghan Garda station. He has since been charged with Human Trafficking, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) act 2008. He appeared before monaghan District court on Wednesday, June ⁢11th, where he was remanded in custody.A ‍complete file is currently being compiled for the Director of ⁢Public Prosecutions.

An Garda Síochána remains committed to working closely with Europol and other international ‌law enforcement partners to identify victims of human trafficking. The force has issued a strong appeal to any potential victims to come forward‍ and speak with them, assuring that all contact will be treated with the utmost confidence.
