International Effort Uncovers Widespread Criminal Activity
A man in his 50s has been remanded in custody in Monaghan following his arrest as part of a significant global operation targeting human trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced criminality. Operation Global Chain: A United Front Against Exploitation
Operation Global Chain, conducted from June 1st to June 6th, 2025, saw law enforcement agencies worldwide, including An Garda Síochána, collaborate to combat human trafficking. The operation specifically focused on identifying and disrupting networks involved in sexual exploitation, forced criminality, and forced begging, with a particular emphasis on child trafficking for financial gain.
During the week-long operation, gardaí conducted extensive checks across Ireland. This included visits to 92 suspected brothels in various towns and cities. During these visits, 179 sex workers, representing a diverse range of nationalities including Brazil, Romania, Spain, China, Dominican Republic, Poland, Latvia, Colombia, Taiwan, Panama, Czech Republic, Malaysia, and Ireland, where interviewed. While no victims of human trafficking were detected during these specific visits, the intelligence gathered is crucial for ongoing investigations.
