A member of the public died on Tuesday, August 26, 2024, after falling from a public footpath on Crofton Road onto the northbound platform of Dún Laoghaire railway station shortly before 2:00 PM. Emergency services responded to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.
Irish Rail staff initially reported the incident, leading to the suspension of train services through Dún Laoghaire station. Services resumed shortly after 3:30 PM, according to Irish Rail.
Official Statement
An Irish Rail spokesperson stated, “Tragically, despite efforts of station staff and emergency services personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.” The spokesperson added, “our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of the deceased.”
