Man Facing Contempt Charges Over ⁤alleged Illegal House Occupation

Kilkenny, Ireland – A man ⁣who allegedly occupied a house in⁤ Kilkenny and collected rent from tenants despite ‌its sale ‍at auction could face imprisonment for contempt of court. David Walshe is accused of unlawfully occupying the⁣ property on Manor Walk, Rose Hill, after it was sold to Adrian Fox, a garage ⁣owner from Naas, Co Kildare, for €170,000 ⁣in ‌August ⁢2023.

Fox claims⁤ Walshe demanded €146,000 ‌for‌ his interest in the ⁤property⁢ before the sale. Walshe,⁣ who has appeared in social media⁤ videos offering legal advice on mortgage issues, has been living in the house and collecting ⁣rent from tenants, according ‌to Fox.The case came⁤ before the ⁣High Court on Friday, where two men who said they had been paying ⁣Walshe between €450 and €500 ⁤per month in rent were brought⁣ before the court ‌by gardaí. They were served with ⁤court orders to‌ vacate the property on november 29th ⁢and⁤ claimed they⁢ were unaware of the ‍legal proceedings.

One man stated he was seeking legal advice, while the other ⁣said he had been actively looking for alternative⁢ accommodation and had spent three days homeless⁤ before finding his current lodgings.

Mr. Justice Liam Kennedy,⁤ acknowledging that the men were ⁢not informed about‌ the proceedings by Walshe, discharged‌ the attachment and committal orders against them. He ‌instructed them not to return to the house and to arrange ‍with⁤ Fox’s representatives⁢ to collect their belongings.

Gardaí ⁤have been unable to locate ‍Walshe, but he reportedly contacted them and agreed to meet on Monday. The judge adjourned the matter until Monday, pending Walshe’s appearance or an update from Fox’s legal representative.
