Man Killed Fleeing ICE Operation in Los Angeles
A man died hit this Thursday on a highway while fleeing a raid from the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) in an Home Depot in Monrovia, in Los Angeles County, in California, local authorities confirmed.
“During the activity of ICE, a person fled on foot, crossing Evergreen Avenue and entered the 210 highway in the direction of this,” the statement said.
The man was hit by a vehicle on the highway and later died in a hospital.
According to local authorities, “a call from a collision of a vehicle with the pedestrian was answered. The person was transferred into ambulance to a hospital in the area. The city confirmed that the pedestrian died later in that hospital,” they said.
The California road patrol (CHP) conducts a traffic investigation.
NBCLA reports indicate that 10 people were arrested and others ran to escape from the migratory operation.
The Government of Monrovia said that “the city has no information about the OCE operation, if it stopped or arrested people, nor the names of the people involved.”
ICE migratory raids around the stores of The Home Depot chain, specializing in materials and construction equipment or repairs, have become frequent in their persecution of immigrants, focusing on day laborers who are looking for work every day.
