Two Men Arrested, One Remains in Custody

A New Year’s Eve party turned too tragedy in New ross, Wexford County, as a local man died from injuries sustained in an assault. The victim,identified as 58-year-old John O’Connor,was found unresponsive in a house on the Cluain Fada estate on december 31st.

Gardaí (Irish police) responded to reports of an injured man at the residence shortly after 11 a.m. Paramedics pronounced O’Connor dead at the scene. Two men were arrested on suspicion of assault. One man was released without charge, but a man in his 30s, known to Gardaí and with a history of violent offenses, remains in custody.

Postmortem Results Lead to Murder Inquiry

Though, a postmortem examination conducted by State Pathologist Dr. Linda Mulligan confirmed the cause of death as injuries sustained in the assault, prompting the upgrade to a murder inquiry.

the investigating team is urging anyone with information about O’Connor’s last movements or who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Cluain Fada estate area around 11 a.m. on December 31st to come forward. Gardaí are particularly interested in any video footage,including dashcam recordings from motorists,that may have captured relevant details.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the Cluain Fada area around the time of the incident to contact us,” said Detective Inspector John Kelly. “Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial to our investigation.”
