A man incurred a $55.18 taxi fare after helping a stranded woman outside the East Coast Lagoon Food Village on Sept 15 at around 2am. The individual, identified only by the Stomper pseudonym SL, booked the ride through his ComfortDelGro app after being approached by the woman, who claimed to have lost her phone. SL recounted that the woman appeared to be in her late 20s to early 30s and was alone with her hair completely drenched. She initially requested a drop-off at Block 133 Yishun Street 11 before changing the destination shortly afterward to Block 124, according to his account published by Stomp.

The Booking and Fare Incident

Despite feeling reluctant due to the late hour, SL proceeded with the booking as he waited for his own Grab ride home. The woman explicitly instructed him to select the cash payment option, assuring him she would go up to her residence to retrieve money and settle the bill upon arrival.

While traveling home, SL monitored the ComfortDelGro application to verify if the passenger had alighted and paid the final $55.18 fare. He received a call from the taxi driver informing him that the woman had left the vehicle without returning to make the payment.

Following the driver’s advice to report the matter, SL opted instead to cover the cost out of his own pocket. Rather than executing a PayNow transfer, he keyed his debit card details directly into the application at the driver’s instruction to clear the outstanding balance.

Public Warning Issued by the Stomper

SL stated that no formal report has been lodged with authorities or transport operators regarding the incident.

Should we choose to file a report, authorities will probably be able to locate the woman because the cab is equipped with an interior camera. I am publishing this account so that members of the public can avoid repeating my error.
