On August 1, 2020, Sen went for a run and never returned, according to her family. Plano officers found her body near Spring Creek that same morning. The examination led to Moncrief’s arrest 16 days later; he was 29 years old at the time.
A memorial walk was held in 2021 to honor Sarmistha Sen.
