Man Seriously Injured in Traffic Accident on E4 Near Linköping

A man is in intensive care following a traffic accident on the E4 highway southwest of Linköping, Sweden, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The incident occurred near Vikingstad, where a car left the roadway and entered a ditch.

Two people were transported to a hospital after the crash. Region Östergötland later confirmed that an adult man sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in intensive care.

Police have stated that the driver of the vehicle, a 75-year-old man, is suspected of reckless driving. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the car leaving the E4.

This incident is one of several traffic-related reports coming from across Sweden on Tuesday. Sweden Herald reported earlier in the day on a traffic offence in Boden, a traffic accident in Krokom, a theft in Östersund, a traffic control in Umeå, another theft in Luleå, a drunk driving incident in Östersund, and a single-car accident in Eskilstuna. A criminal threat was also reported in Umeå.

Elsewhere in Sweden, a 53-year-old man died after his car collided with an elk on a country road in central Sweden, according to reports. A single-vehicle accident occurred on County Road 156 between Kinna and Hyssna on February 21st, resulting in serious injuries to both the male and female occupants of the vehicle. Police initially suspected driving under the influence in that case, with the possibility of further charges.

On February 21st, a car overturned after leaving the road during a police pursuit initiated due to heavy fog. The two occupants, a man and a woman, sustained serious injuries and were transported for medical attention.

In Dodge County, a man from Watertown was also seriously injured in a car crash, according to reports from wdtimes.com.

Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution on the roads, particularly given recent weather conditions and ongoing incidents.
