With Luke Shaw entering the final year of his contract and remaining the only recognized left-back in the first-team squad, Carrick has faced mounting pressure to address the position.

Academy Departures and Loan Talks Underway

Alongside incoming business, United are looking to cash in on several academy graduates before the deadline. Amass featured during pre-season fixtures but missed out on the matchday squad for the weekend’s 2-0 defeat away at newly promoted Hull City. We’ve been really pleased with Harry, he’s done really well in pre-season. Amass is expected to follow fellow academy graduate Toby Collyer out of Old Trafford. Collyer is set to join West Bromwich Albion in a permanent transfer worth an initial £3m, with potential add-ons taking the deal up to £7.6m, according to The Athletic. The agreement also includes a 40 per cent sell-on clause retained by United. While Hull City and Middlesbrough also submitted offers for the 22-year-old, Collyer opted to return to The Hawthorns following a previous loan spell during the first half of last season.

Summer Spending and Squad Outlook

Carrick has already overseen seven new signings during the current transfer window, headlined by the £70million arrival of long-term midfield target Carlos Baleba from Cameroon. Baleba’s arrival followed the earlier additions of fellow midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, who joined the club for a combined £87m.

Questions also persist regarding the future of forward Marcus Rashford, though reports confirm that a move to a Premier League rival has been ruled out. With the deadline fast approaching, Carrick’s recruitment team faces a tight window to finalize remaining squad adjustments.
