A pit bull mix was found abandoned and tied to a residence on Elm Street in Albany on May 1, 2026. The dog, which has since been named Omarion, was discovered around 7 a.m. Tied to a railing with a red leash.
According to reporting from CBS6, video footage provided by a viewer captures the moment of abandonment. The video shows a man walking the dog to the front steps of a home, where he attaches the leash to the railing and leaves the animal behind.
Gary Stoerzinger, a neighbor who discovered the dog, reported the incident to Animal Control. Stoerzinger stated that he and his friends went to a store to purchase supplies for the animal because it appeared severely underfed, noting that the dog’s ribs were visible.
Despite its condition, Stoerzinger described the dog as playful. The animal waited for approximately one hour before being spotted by the neighbor.
Animal Control arrived at the scene closer to 9 a.m. On May 1, 2026. Stoerzinger expressed frustration with the official response, claiming that the responding officer seemed uninterested in reviewing security footage or other provided facts regarding the abandonment.
The dog, estimated to be between eight and nine months old, was transported to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. On May 4, 2026, CBS6’s Anthony Krolikowski visited the nonprofit and presented the footage of the man abandoning the dog.
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society later informed CBS6 that Omarion had appeared on the organization’s stray page and was subsequently removed.
