[스포츠조선 장종호 기자] A Japanese man claims he has ‘doubled’ his life by sleeping just 30 minutes a night for 12 years.
According to foreign media outlets such as the Hong Kong media South China Morning Post, Hori Daisuke, 40, who lives in Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan, said that he never feels tired because he trains his brain and body to function normally with minimal sleep.
“); He is a businessman who works in music, painting and mechanical design. He started reducing his sleep 12 years ago to increase the time he is active each day, and as a result, he succeeded in reducing his daily sleep time to 30-45 minutes.
“You can avoid drowsiness by just exercising or drinking coffee an hour before eating,” he said.
He founded the Short-Term Sleep Training Association in 2016 and teaches classes on sleep and health.
“People whose jobs require sustained concentration benefit more from quality sleep than from long sleep,” he explained. “For example, doctors and firefighters have shorter rest periods but maintain high efficiency,” he added.
A Japanese broadcaster even conducted an interview to verify the actual daily sleep time.
Yomiuri TV followed him for three days in a reality show, during which he slept for only 26 minutes and woke up naturally, full of energy.
After eating breakfast, I worked out at the gym and then went to work.
He said he taught more than 2,100 students to become super-sleep learners.
One of the students told Yomiuri TV, “After training, I reduced my sleep time from eight hours to 90 minutes,” and “I have maintained this sleep time for four years and have maintained good skin and mental health.”
After this story became known, opinions were divided online, such as, “This is a true master of time management. I want to learn how to sleep less and work more efficiently,” and “It’s shortening my life. Even if my brain can stay awake, my heart won’t be able to handle it.”
Doctors warn that extremely short sleep is not suitable for everyone and has side effects.
One doctor said, “Adults are advised to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every day. Sleep is an important time for the body and brain to recover,” and pointed out that “chronic sleep deprivation can lead to memory loss, weakened immunity, mood disorders, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.”
