The role involves leading the design and operation of computer platforms that integrate high-performance local edge computing on the factory floor with enterprise-scale Google Cloud Platform environments.
Reporting to the Head of IT Infrastructure & Operations, the manager will serve as the primary architect and operator of the infrastructure powering Ford Energy’s BESS manufacturing operations.
Key responsibilities include designing, deploying, and managing Ford Energy’s cloud environments with a focus on GCP governance, cloud economics, and identity and access management.
The position requires expertise in on-premises and edge infrastructure, including the physical hosting of server rooms, rack layouts, power requirements, cooling coordination, and high-availability edge compute solutions for real-time manufacturing data.
The manager will oversee the on-site virtualization layer to ensure maximum hardware utilization and resilience while implementing business continuity strategies that span both physical hardware and cloud workloads.
Additional duties involve implementing advanced monitoring tools for 24/7 system visibility and architecting scalable storage solutions for massive manufacturing datasets to support analysis and long-term retention.
The role demands proven experience managing hybrid environments where cloud and physical hardware operate in sync, deep knowledge of server hardware, enterprise storage, and data center physical infrastructure, and experience with Infrastructure as Code tools for automating environment deployment.
