Manchester United have reportedly set a valuation of £10 million for the permanent sale of academy goalkeeper Radek Vitek. The 22-year-old Czech Republic international has spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Bristol City, where he has established himself as a key figure in the Championship.

According to reporting from Football League World, the valuation comes as United consider the player’s future following his successful stint at Ashton Gate. There is a possibility that Vitek could remain with Bristol City on a permanent basis, given how settled he has become with the club.

Impact at Bristol City

Vitek joined Bristol City on a season-long loan in July 2025. While he was initially brought in to provide cover for the injured Max O’Leary, Vitek eventually secured the starting role for himself.

During the current campaign, the goalkeeper has made 34 appearances in the Championship, recording nine clean sheets. While he has conceded 45 goals across those matches, his performances earned him the public support of former manager Gerhard Struber, who had requested that the player stay before Struber was replaced by Roy Hodgson.

Career Progression and United Contract

Before departing for Bristol City on July 28, 2025, Vitek signed a new contract with Manchester United that runs until 2028. This move to the Championship represents his third loan spell away from Old Trafford, following previous stints with Accrington Stanley in 2024 and the Austrian side Blau-Weiss Linz.

Career Progression and United Contract

Despite his contract extension, Vitek has expressed a desire for regular first-team football. He has stated that while his ambition is to break through at Manchester United, he does not wish to return to the club solely to serve as backup cover.

The path to the starting lineup at United is currently blocked by Senne Lammens. The Belgian goalkeeper joined United as a summer signing and is the undisputed starter, having provided a level of composure and stability to the defense that had been lacking under previous keepers.

Squad Context and Transfer Strategy

United’s approach to their goalkeeping department has seen several shifts over the last year. In addition to Vitek’s move, fellow academy goalkeeper Elyh Harrison was loaned to Shrewsbury Town in July 2025. This left Dermot Mee and Will Murdock to compete for the primary position within the U21 setup.

The potential £10 million sale of Vitek would align with United’s broader strategy of managing their academy talent and generating funds from player departures. The club’s focus on the goalkeeping position was evident during the 2025 summer window, where they targeted both Senne Lammens and Emiliano Martinez.

Vitek’s current situation places him at a crossroads; his ability to maintain his starting position under Roy Hodgson and the financial terms agreed upon between Manchester United and Bristol City will determine whether he returns to Carrington or completes a permanent move to Ashton Gate.
