Mancini’s Future on the Line: Saudi Statement Sparks Speculation

After the announcement of the sudden death of former Moroccan international player Abdelaziz Berrada at the age of 35 due to a heart attack, the Moroccan sports world has been in mourning since Thursday.

Berrada is considered one of the stars of the “Atlas Lions” and has carried the colors of the Moroccan national team on 28 occasions in addition to a professional career at several European and Arab clubs.

The Royal Morocco (Federal) Football Federation mourned the loss of the player, describing his loss as a “serious injury”.

It said in a statement, “The Royal Moroccan Football Federation, in the person of its president, Mr. Fawzi Lakza, on its own behalf and on behalf of the administrative office, expresses its sincere condolences to the members of his family. Former Moroccan international, the late Abdelaziz Berrada and through it all his family and This is a great blow to the relatives as well as the football family.”

He continued, “The late Abdelaziz Berrada, who passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, previously wore the national team jersey on several occasions and also played for many European and Arab teams.”

Berrada moved to France in 1989, and his professional career began with the reserve team of French club Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Spanish club Getafe in early 2010.

In 2013, the player moved to Emirati club Al Jazira, for whom he played one season, then joined French club Marseille on a contract lasting four seasons.

He later joined the ranks of Emirati club Al-Nasr and then had separate stints in Turkey and Qatar until announcing his international retirement in 2021.

As for the player’s career in the ranks of the Moroccan national team, it began in February 2012, when he appeared for the first time in a “Lions” shirt in a friendly match against Burkina Faso, and later he had a remarkable performance. French club Marseille expressed its sadness at the death of its former player and wrote, “Abdel Aziz, its former Moroccan international, received news of his death two seasons after joining in the summer of 2014, and the club sends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Berrada, whose family hails from a Berber village in southern Morocco, was noted for his love of the “Atlas Lions” and his support for several charitable initiatives in Morocco.
