Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith Rebuild Life and Home After Fire
A year after a devastating fire threatened their newly-renovated home in Altadena, California, actor and singer Mandy Moore and musician Taylor Goldsmith are settling back into their restored Spanish Colonial Revival house. The experience, and the subsequent rebuilding process, has become a story of resilience and community spirit, highlighted in the March issue of Architectural Digest.
The fire, part of the larger Eaton Fire that swept through the area in January 2025, caused significant damage, but the “main part” of the home survived, according to Moore. The couple lost their garage and a back house in the blaze. The rebuilding effort reflects a quiet optimism, as the family re-establishes a sense of normalcy, with music returning to the living room and children playing in the yard.
Moore and Goldsmith’s journey to finding this home began with a desire for a space that truly felt like their own. Moore previously owned a Mediterranean-style house in Los Feliz for 15 years, but felt disconnected from the property, admitting she didn’t fully know herself at 18 when she first purchased it. The Pasadena home, a 1950s architecture project designed by Harold B. Zook, offered a fresh start.
The mid-century modern house required restoration work to recapture its original 1950s identity. Previous renovations had obscured some of Zook’s original design elements. Moore collaborated with architect Emily Farnham and interior designer Sarah Sherman Samuel to bring the home back to its mid-century roots. The property boasts breathtaking views of the San Gabriel Valley and includes a yard, important for the couple’s two dogs.
The road to recovery hasn’t been without its challenges. Following the fire, Moore faced criticism online after sharing a GoFundMe campaign to support her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Griff and Kit Goldsmith, who lost their home in the same fire. Moore responded to the backlash, defending her efforts to help family and clarifying that they were also impacted by the fires.
The Architectural Digest feature highlights the ongoing rebuilding efforts in Altadena and offers a glimpse into the couple’s personal story of rebuilding after loss. The article emphasizes the importance of community and choosing to believe in what comes next. The March issue of Architectural Digest, dedicated to Los Angeles, will feature the full story, titled “Open Door,” and includes information on how to support the rebuilding efforts at archdigest.com/donatela.
