Anaconda, MT – A deadly shooting at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, has left four peopel dead and authorities searching for a suspect identified as Michael Paul Brown. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 local time, has prompted a widespread manhunt and a call for residents to remain vigilant.
Suspect Identified, Described as Armed and Perilous
The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center has named Michael Paul Brown as the suspect in the fatal shooting. In a social media alert, officials stated that Brown is “believed to be armed and dangerous” and urged the public not to approach him. Instead, anyone with details regarding his whereabouts is instructed to contact 911 promptly.
Local law enforcement, including the Granite County Sheriff’s Office, has provided a description of the suspect, stating he is believed to be wearing a tie-dyed shirt, blue jeans, and an orange bandana. the sheriff’s office also confirmed that Brown’s home in Anaconda has been searched and cleared by SWAT teams.
Community on Lockdown as Manhunt Intensifies
Anaconda residents have been advised to stay in their homes and secure their doors as the search for Brown continues.The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirmed its response to the scene, indicating the gravity of the situation. The FBI is also on-site, assisting local authorities in the ongoing investigation.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte has stated he is closely monitoring the situation and offered his condolences. “Please join Susan and me in praying for the victims, their loved ones, and the brave law enforcement officers responding to this tragedy,” the governor posted on social media.
Montana Senator Steve Daines highlighted the extensive efforts underway, noting that police drones are being utilized to aid in the “massive manhunt.”
Historic Owl Bar Site of Tragedy
The Owl Bar, the location of the shooting, has a long history in Anaconda. Established in 1893, the bar was originally built to serve the town’s copper workers. located in the Goosetown neighborhood, the establishment is a piece of Anaconda’s rich industrial past. Anaconda itself is a former copper smelting hub with a population of nearly 10,000, situated in southwestern Montana, approximately 109 miles west of Bozeman.
